As of October 2009, the British Columbia Pacific Hake Fishery received Marine Stewardship Council certification as a sustainable fishery.
The MSC is an internationally recognized organization whose mission is to use their ecolabel and fishery certification programme to contribute to the health of the world's oceans by recognising and rewarding sustainable fishing practises, influencing the choices people make when buying seafood, and working with their partners to transform the seafood market to a sustainable basis.
